The Cisco Catalyst 8000 Series edge platforms support a wide range of modules and adapters to meet the needs of different network scenarios. Network Interface Modules (NIMs) provide connectivity options for Gigabit/deca-Gigabit Ethernet, Serial Interfaces (E1/T1, V.35, X.21), DSL (VDSL/ADSL), and LTE/5G mobile phone connectivity for WAN and remote site deployments. Service Modules (SM) can be used to enhance VPN encryption, SD-WAN acceleration and storage expansion for improved security and data handling. For high performance requirements, the Expansion Interface Card (EIC) supports 10G/25G/40G/100G fibre ports for data centre interconnections and MPLS business lines. In addition, the device supports M.2 SSD and USB storage modules for local data caching and system updates to ensure the efficiency, stability and security of enterprise networks.
