The EX4300-48P delivers 48 PoE+ ports with optional uplink modules, including QSFP+ for 40G stacking or uplinks. For closets that carry video, Wi-Fi and voice across 48 ports, the EX4300's density and uplink flexibility still beat the EX3400 today. Its EOL announcements make used pricing attractive — and for transitional fleets, a tested used EX4300 at a steep discount is a legitimate budget play. The EX3400-48P and its 24-port siblings are the current access offer: newer ASIC, roughly half the power draw of the EX4300 for equivalent work, four built-in 10G uplinks and full virtual chassis. For any new access deployment, the EX3400 is the safer default — current support, current Junos, lower operating cost.
Virtual chassis operates within a family, so plan each stack as a single family. Mixed-fleet management is still clean: same Junos automation, same config style, same monitoring. The practical rule for expansions: match the existing stack family when adding units to it, and standardize on EX3400 for new stacks.
